- Daru is a very special kind of composition and is best suited for musical dramas and dance dramas.
- The lyrics of daru describe mythological incidents and historical instances or a love scene or the qualities of patrol.
- Daru usually has a Pallavi, Anupallavi and 3 to 5 charanas.
- Well composed jathis , and suitable swaras give the right culminaiton.
- Daru can be classified mainly according to the type of lyrics it has and the scene it projects.
- 1. Pravesha Daru – Paatra Pravesha Daru – This song introduces the actors as they come on the stage. The Actor who does this gets good opportunity to exhibit his talent.
- Swagata Daru – This will be in a slow tempo and reveals the mind of the actor and generally welcomes the charators.
- Varnana Daru – This details the theme of the Drama and roles played there in.
- Samvada Daru – The story moves on in the form of conversation. for this samvada Daru both music and dance are needed.
- Kolata Date – This song is accompanied by Kolatta
- Uttara – Pratiuttara Daru – Here two charactoers continue the story by means of jokes and witty conversation. This uttara and pratiuttara daru also needs dance and music.
- Tillana Daru – It has all the marks of a Tillana and lyrical part includes proverbs and old time themes along with other wordings and lyrics.
- Jakkini Daru – The lyrics are in higher speed in this form of Daru-s. The first part has notes and jathis and the second part has lyrics.
- These Darus are popular since three centuries and set to a very rare tala called GuruJhampe having 10 counts.
- Oradi Daru – This is known as Madhyama Daru also. Here, in this Oradi Daru all the charanas portray one single theme and the notation is the same for pallavi and charanas. Most of the oradi daru describe emphasise patriotism and war.
